Welcome to Lumos Healthcare Blog
I'm Hakan Ilkin and I have devoted my career to improving healthcare processes.
These are my ramblings about healthcare process improvement, specifically surgical services, real-time time location systems and its applications and anything else that comes to mind about healthcare in general.
I have been a healthcare professional for the last 15 years. Started off at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Anesthesia Department as an analyst and programmer and went on to run the Operating Room IT. Spent ten years as co-founder at PeriOptimum, a firm as the name indicates trying to optimize the perioperative cycle. During those ten years provided perioperative consulting to dozens of hospitals including UPMC, Geisinger, Hospital for Special Surgery, Lancaster General, Lakeland Regional and Thomas Jefferson. Created and implemented patient tracking systems integrated with real-time location systems in about a dozen hospitals.
I am currently the Director of Process Improvement of Grady Memorial Hospital: A safety-net hospital, Level-1 Trauma center and a teaching institution all rolled into one.
